Prairie At Night
Last night my husband and I went out to Prairie State Park to view the night sky. Our goal was to identify a couple of constellations and a specific star, observe the International Space Station on its way through, and, maybe, catch a glimpse of Comet Neowise.
As the sun slipped down, over, and out of sight on the western horizon the tallgrass prairie at night came to life, revealing itself in all its glory!
An owl flew over in search of prey, lightening bugs began to twinkle and were soon dancing their way across the tops of the tall grasses like tiny fairies, frogs, crickets, and prairie cicadas tuned up in unison for a nighttime prairie song that would last the whole night through, dickcissels snuggled deep down in the tall grasses and twittered their sleepy "good-nights", and far away a pack of coyotes joyfully yipped and yapped...singing to the skies...just happy to be alive and living where they're free to be just exactly who and what they were created to be and do.
What a beautiful thing the prairie at night is! When was the last time you went out and enjoyed the night sky where you live?

P. S. - In the end, John and I got so excited about seeing the International Space Station fly right over our heads, and finding the constellations and star that we were looking for, that we forgot all about the Comet Neowise!!! ☄
Duh! 🙄THAT was the rarest and most important thing on our list! Who knows though? We've got a few more chances. Maybe we'll be able to catch it tonight! 🤔
I was focusing on the International Space Station. Is
this it? Or...is it something else? We will never know.
